Having bands come in and play shows in the store is an aspect of working in a record shop that absolutely rules. It is such a joy to support independent artists and bring together a community that is centered around music. It makes some of the headaches that come with the territory just drift away.
We have had a particularly good run of in-stores lately, and I’m getting more bold about just wriggling through the crowd to where the good shots are going to be. Here are some recent favorites:
Exene Cervenka

Stellar Corpses

Tetherhorse

I know. It’s overrun with tourists. Especially on Saturdays. But, if that’s the only thing you know about Monterey, then you need to take a deeper look. That little town has a lot to offer. It’s beautiful, historic, friendly and romantically foggy.
Not sold yet? I have one more word for you: Steinbeck. Ring a bell? One of the great American writers? Cannery Row? If you know, then you already know that you can stroll up and down sacred literary ground. If you don’t know, then pick up Cannery Row or East of Eden or the Grapes of Wrath. Then we’ll talk. Cheers.

My brother Anthony has been skating passionately and well for the last 25 years.
On a holiday visit a few weeks ago, we ventured out for a photo trip to see what my new toy could do with moving things. I made some setting mistakes so the action shots came out blurry, but I got some of Anth that I really like. It’s easy when he’s so damn cute!
And yes, it was crazy cold.

There’s a covered bridge near our house that draws artists, tourists and bridge aficionados to it’s wooden planks the year round. Apparently it’s one of the few remaining covered bridges in the U.S.
Here are my attempts at capturing the massive, beautiful nature of this local landmark. I planned on taking a lot more photos, but there was a herd of drunks that started hollering at me. Fearing the safety of myself and my camera, I split.

One of my favorite pastimes is wandering around town with my camera, looking for stuff to photograph. I like to shoot ordinary things that have extraordinary qualities about them, or things that, by photographing them, become extraordinary.

Photos from our day spent visiting the pumpkin patches along Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. This trip is also know as The Best Day Ever.
